Eagle Watching Feb 6, 2011   Leave a comment

Decided to take a drive north to try to see some Eagles.  Eagles winter over in mid-Missouri and Illinois along thee Mississippi River.  A few years ago we made the trip to Pere Marquette, this year we decided to take a trip to Clarksville, MO to see what we could see.

Our first stop was at Lock and Dam 25 at Winfield near the Eagle Rest Area  http://www.mvs.usace.army.mil/rivers/04Dam25.pdf  We noticed a loan eagle eating something near the water’s edge.  We have decided to visit this and other areas near here when the weather is nicer.  We will also visit Clarksville during Eagle weekend to learn more about the yearly migration to this area.

We stopped in Clarksville looking for lunch.  Gorgeous furniture and fiber arts at Bent Tree Furniture so many nice things and the baskets!  http://www.grm.net/~jnwhitt/

Next stop was Massiglia Fine Arts.  We really enjoyed talking to Kevin and I ended up bringing home “Roses II”  Check out his work http://www.massiglia.com/massiglia%20black%20and%20white%20photos.htm

Last stop in town was Trish’s Treasures – Art Glass: Handblown Glass, Glass Jewelry, Fused glass and Stained Glass..  We  also discovered that they have glass blowing demonstrations at this location every other weekend.  Trish’s website is under construction and it’s best to call to confirm that it’s a demonstration weekend (573) 242-3353

It was suggested that we try “Village of the Blue Rose” for lunch.  GREAT Food and a GREAT View!  We will be returning here to eat on our next visit.  They also have a couple of feeders so I enjoyed snapping a few pictures of the birds visiting.  “The Village of the Blue Rose is a non-profit Christian community where adults with developmental disabilities live, learn and work in a loving  environment… The Village of the blue rose accepts no government funding and depends solely on the generosity and philanthropy of the community as well as the entrepreneurial efforts of its own business endeavors.”  http://www.villagebluerose.org/Default.html

It was a Five Star Day!!!
